Open Letter

Dear Friends, Neighbors, and Fellow Citizens of Montgomery County,

My name is Sophia Zoe Kilmer, and I am honored to run for Judge of the Court of Common Pleas of Montgomery County. This community has given me so much—a safe place to raise my child, friendships that feel like family, and the opportunity to grow as both an advocate and a person. I am running to give back to this community and to ensure that our courts are a place where everyone is treated with dignity, fairness, and respect.

Over the past 13 years, I have devoted my career to standing up for people at their most vulnerable moments. As a trial attorney, I have represented injured workers, victims of catastrophic loss, and families grappling with unimaginable tragedy. Each case has reinforced my belief in the power of the legal system to deliver justice when approached with compassion, intelligence, and integrity. I am proud of the work I've done and the lives I've been able to impact—but I know there is more to do.

I believe in a justice system that works for everyone, not just the powerful. As a judge, I will bring the same work ethic, fairness, and dedication to the bench that I've brought to every case in my career. I will be a judge who listens—who treats each case as unique and every person as deserving of their day in court. Justice is not always black and white; often, it exists in the grey areas where nuance, context, and empathy matter most. When faced with these moments, I will be guided by my commitment to the rule of law, my progressive values, and my belief that equality and fairness are not just ideals but necessities.

I also know that representation matters. If elected, I would be the first openly transgender judge to serve at this level in Pennsylvania. This history-making opportunity is not something I take lightly. To my fellow members of the LGBTQ+ community: I see you, and I am here for you. I want to show that our voices belong in every room, and our experiences strengthen our ability to lead with compassion and courage.

I am running as a Democrat because I believe in the power of collective action to create meaningful change. Democracy is not a spectator sport—it requires all of us. I am grateful for your engagement in this process, and I invite you to join me in building a future where our courts are fair, our communities are heard, and justice is truly for all.

Thank you for being part of this journey with me. Together, we can make history and build a brighter future for Montgomery County.

Sophia Zoe Kilmer

Sincerely,
Sophia Zoe Kilmer, Esq.
